Happy Anniversary

December 19, 2008

Today is my 21st Wedding Anniversary!  Sherri and I have now been maried as long as we were single… so half my life.  I must say it has been a wonderful journey and I look forward to the many more adventures that lie ahead.  I have the two best children in the world and an awesome church family!  I am blessed beyond measure!

Reminisce: Knock Knock Story

December 18, 2008

Here is another old newsletter article:

Every night I get the same request as Sherri and I put the kids to bed, Sheridan more adamant than Jefferson:  “Daddy.  Tell us a ‘Knock Knock’ story.”  It all started several months ago after going back into Sheridan’s room for the “upteenth” time. I decided to try telling her a story improv style.  “Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jefferson and a girl named Sheridan.  They were playing in the back yard.  Suddenly they heard a knock.”  I knock on the wall for effectiveness. In the story, they look over the fence to the west to see if it is their neighbor friends.  Without success they do the same on the other side.  After checking the house to see if it’s mom and dad, they realize it is coming from the back fence.  No one lives behind us so it is full of under growth and can be scary to a child.  As the knocking continues, the suspense builds as they slowly climb the fence.  They peek over and aaaahhhh!  I scream,  “Guess who it is?!?!  The part they’ve been waiting for,  “Who?”  It’s different every time.  Someone new has come to visit and play with them.  This has become known as a “Knock Knock” story and it’s drama is reciprocated every Sunday morning at TCOC.  We not only have our faithful church people, but a steady stream of new faces virtually every week.  Only twice in TCOC’s existence have we not had a first time visitor.  Sometimes it is our friends and/or family, many times guests of our church people, and other times people from the community who have heard about us from the newspaper, yellow pages, or from our various outreaches.  We had 26 visitors in June, 38 in May, and 42 in April.  We pray this trend continues and visitors always feel welcome.  If you have never visited TheChurchOfCorinth, we would love for you to come and see how your investment into the Kingdom has grown.

Commitment Celebration Services

December 3, 2008

The Simply For YOU: Commitment Celebration Services may well be the most pivotal time for TCOC since moving into the building. The last five weeks of prayer and fasting have been such an incredible time of spiritual renewal and intimacy with our Creator God. The SFY messages have challenged us to “move eighteen inches” (the distance from the head to the heart) so that we all might hear from God and be obedient to His purpose and plan. God will always do what He says He will do and you can be sure He is faithful and true. It is we, His people, who are ever in question… will we respond correctly to His prompting or simply react from our own thinking? I believe we are ready to act upon His leadership and that this weekend will be a day of submission to God and celebration for His benefits. I look forward to it with great anticipation! I hope everyone who is able will be in attendance as we honor God with our sacrifice.

“I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.” 1 Chronicles 29:17 NLT
